Key Findings:

Michael Oren, Knesset member and former Israeli Ambassador to the US, offers perspective on the ‘day after’ question regarding the Israel-Hamas war.

The way this war ends is different from others in Israel's history. What does victory look like for Israel, besides for the neutralization of Hamas? What does ‘the day after’ have in store?

-Internationalization of Gaza. Both the demilitarization and rebuilding of Gaza would be undertaken by the US and other international forces, absolving Israel and Egypt of their sole responsibility.

-Demilitarization of Gaza, assisted by international forces and Abraham Accords countries would mean the neutralization of Hamas, the confiscation of any weaponry, and the destruction of the Hamas tunnels.

-Gaza’s infrastructure would be rebuilt to provide a higher quality of life for Gazans. This includes education systems, airports, public transportation, and farmlands.

-Most importantly, the emergence of a peace-oriented democratic Palestinian leadership (either a reformed PA, or another, native Gazan leadership that will invest in the welfare of its citizens). Though this is only feasible in the far future, it allows for a path forward to peace and eventually, the hope for a two state solution.
