Israel Is More Than Enough

Key Findings:

The song Dayenu is interpreted by the author as an anthem providing a blueprint for Israel’s path to success, where every miracle over the last 75 years is called a moment of “Dayenu”. This essay consists of a list of economic, political and technical feats the country has seen in chronological order:

(1) The proclamation of Israel as an independent state. 

(2) The implementation of a democracy. The founding party could have easily implemented a socialist dictatorship given the turbulent state of the country at the time. The fact that they did not is a miracle.

(3) The implementation of an electoral system citizens can trust. 

(4) The implementation of a legal system with proper law-enforcement agencies, courts, and judges to prevent social injustices and abuses of power. Pfeffer emphasizes that without this, the country’s knowledge-based private sector would not be where it is today. 

(5) A flourishing tech industry – an industry that has attracted many to Israel for their entrepreneurship and research. 

(6) A flourishing economy. This is a byproduct of the tech industry as well as many other industries that have reached internationally competitive levels. 

(7) The Jewish people's Aliyah to the State of Israel. Millions of displaced Jews have returned and successfully integrated into Israeli society from Yemen, Ethiopia, Italy, France, Canada, etc.
