Key Findings:
The author discusses the shift that occurred in Israel after the November 2022 election, using his lived-in experiences to express the despair and tension felt by many Israelis in the face of Benjamin Netanyahu’s government. The author emphasizes that the Israeli experience of encountering external threat of war, rockets, and terror has not succeeded in breaking down the spirit of the civilian as much as the internal political strife has.
The author characterizes the government as an especially extreme coalition, leaning to the far right more than it ever has previously. The main issue with this coalition is not only the widely talked about Judicial reform, but also the country’s demographic related challenge that cannot be solved with the presence of the ultra-Orthodox parties present in Netanyahu’s coalition.
If Israel wants to move forward as an economically strong, modern, thriving country, the government as it stands is not the answer. The author calls for support from the Jewish Diaspora as a stance in solidarity with the public protests held by civilians all over the country.
