Key Findings:
The contemporary Middle East is marked by a multitude of challenges, including the COVID-19 pandemic, civil conflicts, authoritarian regimes, and natural disasters. Amidst the ongoing turmoil, the quest for happiness is a formidable task. The region's inhabitants endure daily violence and bloodshed, involving various groups such as Palestinians and Jews, as well as nations like Syria and Turkey. Against this backdrop, the obligation to cultivate joy persists among both Arab and Jewish communities.
Arab citizens, once marginalized, now hold prominence in civic and political life. They have made notable strides across professions, constituting nearly half of medical licenses, and a significant presence in fields such as nursing, dentistry, pharmacy, research, entrepreneurship, arts, sports, and media. This progress has been augmented by supportive Jewish counterparts, reflecting collaborative achievements.
In recent Israeli history, two transformative developments occurred in the realm of inter-ethnic unity: (1) the unity forged in response to the universal threat of COVID-19; and (2) the unprecedented Arab participation in the national government coalition. The latter represented a historic milestone, with Arab parties being part of the ruling coalition for the first time. This partnership was short-lived due to various reasons, but its positive impacts reverberated not only within Israel but across the broader region.
The author's introspection on the pervasive issue of criminal violence afflicting Arab society reveals a public tendency to attribute blame to external factors, such as the police, rather than acknowledging internal community factors that contribute to this challenge.
The author envisions a future in which Jews and Arabs work collaboratively to cultivate hope and prosperity, offering a model of partnership that could transcend regional conflicts and serve as a foundation for genuine and equitable peace.
