Key Findings:
The author speaks on the politicization of the hostage crisis Israel currently faces in the midst of the Israel-Hamas War.
The author expresses her disbelief that the hostage issue, a humanitarian crisis consisting of a mass abduction of civilians, has turned into a political debate. In place of unanimous solidarity for the hostages, this crisis has instead caused division between two political camps in Israeli politics. The Israeli right and left have regarded “the return of the hostages as a political issue for which there are different positions”.
The author points out that when problems are politicized, the ability to solve them becomes more and more difficult. For hostages, this is a matter of life or death. She urges the Israeli public to unite on this matter, as she believes it will increase the probability of the hostages’ safe return.
Methodology:
The author uses her own observations to support her argument.
