Key Findings:
The current resurgence of antisemitism in the US has been amplified by events such as the Israel-Hamas War. This essay unpacks whether this resurgence indicates a bleak future for American Jews, or whether historical Jewish resilience signals hope for survival and success.
History can serve as a prologue to assist in understanding how to handle antisemitism today. Historically, Jews have connected with powerful allies and with non-Jewish communities. This may suggest that today's efforts should focus on fostering understanding about Israel’s significance, legitimacy, and undeniable connection to the Jewish people.
Antisemitism come from infinite sources, and recent expressions have originated both from the far-left and far-right. Combating both will require a tailored approach for each – especially on college campuses, where significant expressions of modern day antisemitism in America are found.
Despite periods of safety and success, Jews in America have always remained vigilant and aware that antisemitism is an enduring problem. History has witnessed American Jews rise up with resilience and strength, even during dark moments of struggle and persecution. There is faith in believing this positive legacy will carry on.
